Tony48 Go Kart Champion. The dealer has to write up a report that gets reviewed by VWOA before they will do any work. Ends up in a lot of papework for the dealer. They ended up telling me that because I have a front mount intercooler installed they wouldn't be able to justify the warranty work to VWOA.
That's fine, it's the price of having a modified car. My intercooler clearly didn't cause the sensor to be faulty but I understand where they're coming from. However, if you are stock or can easily go back to stock I wouldn't hesitate to push a dealer to do PZEV work. If you call the dealer they should be able to look up whether a specific part is covered by PZEV. The dealer I dealt with had a binder with a list of components. Here's what a quick google search came up with no idea the source but it seems similar to what the binder had listed.
The dealer was trying to tell me that my car wasn't covered under the PZEV warranty. And that just because your car may have the PZEV parts on it doesn't mean its covered by the warranty. I guess where the vehicle first got sold determines if the PZEV car will be covered under warranty. The dealer said that their system said my car wasn't covered under warranty. Then VWoA worked with the dealership over the course of a week to get all the paperwork straight.
Right now my car is at the dealership getting the part fixed under the PZEV warranty. Luckily I avoided all of that by calling VW of America directly. Now it's snowing out and I'm stuck where I am until the dealership picks me up. How does one ascertain that their car is PZEV? Only certain years? I'm pretty sure that SHFT's isn't.
Mine is, but I think that they're mostly the California Spec'd models. The only thing you need to worry about with that so far is the Intake and make sure you can accommodate the Secondary Air Injection port.
It seemed odd when he said that. I hadn't found any literature that confirmed his statement. PZEVs have an extra O2 sensor, right? Last edited: Dec 19, Santorin said:. I don't believe so. They should still have the standard wideband and narrowband. The only thing different about the PZEVs is in equipment that actually reduces emissions. O2 sensor just measure your emissions If there's anything additional in the exhaust, it'd be an extra cat, but I haven't heard anything about that, and I haven't checked mine yet.
SHFT Ready to race! Location Houston. SHFT said:. What makes you say that? Location Kansas. I got a Pzev car in Kansas. So far I think that it only affects the intake.
Whackamac Ready to race! Grey Ready to race! Location Houston. My fiance is thinking about getting a GTI as well and has been looking at cars online. We found one, but it's listed as "PZEV"? I looked up what the acronym stands for, but can't seem to figure out if the car is actually different. Are there disadvantages or benefits from owning a PZEV car?
Bfreiman lalalalalalalalalalalala. Location Central PA. It took about five seconds. Bfreiman said:. Nothing all the models have the same 50 state emissions rating. Location DE. Essentially the CBFA has slightly better emissions. The only thing you will notice is having the secondary air pump.
